Low Noise Heat Pumps

Clade’s ultra low noise heat pumps are designed to provide space heating and hot water with reduced operational sound, with the lowest decibels in the market, at 33 dB(A) at 10m. Our commercial heat pumps are selected for buildings where external plant noise must be carefully managed, particularly in urban or noise-sensitive locations.

Low noise and ultra low noise options are available within Clade’s heat pump range, including the Birch R290 and the Acer CO2. For installations with stricter acoustic limits, the Birch ULN offers a dedicated ultra low noise solution.

ACER COMMERCIAL AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP

The 50kW-75kW Acer is low noise, small, easy to install and affordable. Using CO2 as its refrigerant, it delivers high temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees, as well as the high performance associated with CO2.

BIRCH COMMERCIAL AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP

The Birch heat pump is part of our R290 range, fitting easily into existing systems to provide hot water up to 60°C. Ideal for quiet areas, Birch standard low-noise models are the quietest and most affordable options.

BIRCH ULTRA LOW NOISE COMMERCIAL HEAT PUMP

Introducing the Birch ULN, the new generation of our flagship Birch r290 heat pump, designed for ultra-low noise performance at 33dB, and easier to install and maintain than ever. It delivers the same outstanding functionality in a significantly quieter unit.

What Are Low Noise Heat Pumps?

Low noise heat pumps are commercial heating systems developed to reduce sound output while maintaining reliable heating performance.

Operational noise is influenced by fan operation, compressor design, airflow and installation method. Low noise variants incorporate design measures to help reduce sound levels compared with standard configurations.

These systems are typically selected for buildings located near neighbouring properties or where planning conditions include noise limits.

Benefits & Key Features

Choosing a low noise commercial heat pump can provide practical advantages in buildings where acoustic performance is important.

Key features include:

  • Reduced operational sound levels
  • Low noise and ultra low noise variants within the product range
  • Controlled acoustic performance across selected commercial models
  • Flexibility in plant positioning
  • Use of natural refrigerants such as R290 and CO2

Low noise configurations are engineered to meet heating requirements while reducing operational sound. Clade’s systems provide space heating and hot water using natural refrigerants, supporting wider decarbonisation objectives.

Low Noise Heat Pump Applications

Low noise commercial heat pumps are used in buildings where sound from external plant must be controlled.

Typical applications include:

  • Urban developments near residential properties
  • Education and healthcare facilities
  • Hotels and hospitality buildings
  • Offices in densely built areas
  • Industrial buildings such as warehouses and manufacturing facilities

For sites with strict acoustic requirements, ultra low noise options such as Birch ULN can be selected.

Acoustic Performance and Planning

When selecting a low noise heat pump, it is important to consider both the sound power of the unit and how sound is experienced at nearby buildings.

Factors such as distance, mounting method, surrounding surfaces and background noise levels all influence perceived sound. Considering these factors early in system design helps ensure the selected heat pump is appropriate for the building and its surroundings.

Clade Engineering offers air, ground, and water source heat pumps and refrigeration that use eco-friendly CO2 coolant and can operate either singly or as part of a multi-unit system.

FAQs About Low Noise Heat Pumps

Low noise heat pumps are commercial systems engineered to reduce operational sound while providing space heating and hot water for commercial and industrial buildings.

They are suitable for buildings where external plant noise must be carefully managed, including urban developments, schools, healthcare facilities, offices, hotels and industrial buildings such as warehouses or manufacturing facilities.

Efficiency depends on system design, flow temperatures and control strategy. Low noise configurations are engineered to maintain heating performance while reducing operational sound.

In many cases, yes. Low noise heat pumps can be designed to operate alongside existing plant, including hybrid systems where required. Integration with thermal storage and building management systems should be considered during system design.

Acoustic performance is assessed using the manufacturer’s sound data and site conditions. Sound levels are typically reviewed relative to background noise at nearby buildings.

Key considerations include heat demand, flow temperatures, electrical capacity, available space and acoustic requirements. Noise levels should be reviewed in relation to neighbouring buildings during system design.
