WHY INVEST IN AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP
There are a few good reasons why you should consider switching to an air source heat pump to provide your heating and hot water. While heat pumps do use electricity to power the process, they produce no carbon whilst in operation. This makes it a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuel heating systems.
They also work perfectly with existing renewable technologies and other systems that you have installed or are planning to install – such as solar PV panels, underfloor heating systems etc. Air source heat pumps have low running costs compared with other off-grid fuels, and they take up less space when compared to other sources. You might also be surprised to hear that there are some models of air source heat pumps that can also be used to cool homes during the hotter summer months.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIR-TO-AIR AND AIR TO WATER TYPES OF AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS
There are two different types of air source heat pump. An air-to-air heat pump provides heating by blowing warm air into your home. They use fans to circulate warm air throughout the home and do not heat water in the system. Air-to-air source heat pumps are more commonly known as air conditioning units.
This makes air-to-water systems the more popular option. Water is heated and then circulated throughout the home via radiators, underfloor heating systems, and are used to heat the water in the storage tank. If you have any questions about the correct model of air source heat pump for your business our expert team are here to advise.
AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS FOR RESIDENTIAL APPLICATIONS
An air source heat pump is an efficient heating system option for a variety of residential applications. You might also be surprised to hear that they are effective even in cold temperatures and in the depths of winter. Whether you want to install a smaller air source heat pump for a small apartment in an urban environment or you have a large, detached house in the country, we can find the right model for your needs.
Alongside the heating systems, heat pumps are used to provide hot water for your needs. For modern technologies such as underfloor heating, our heat pump range provide the perfect solution to heat floors and keep you toasty warm this winter.
HOW DOES AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP WORK?
An air source heat pump works by absorbing outside air into a fluid and increasing the temperature to be spread throughout your heating systems. This outside air is blown over a network of tubes that have been filled with a refrigerant, warming it up and turning the liquid into a gas. After passing through a compressor, heat is added as the pressure increases.
This compressed hot gas is passed through a heat exchanger and transfers cool air or water to make it warmer. This is then circulated through your home into the applications that you have installed, as well as providing hot water. The refrigerant then condenses back into a cool liquid to begin the process all over again.

AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS FAQ
Air source heat pumps provide a low-carbon alternative to traditional heating systems by extracting heat from the outside air and transferring it into a building. Clade’s systems are designed for commercial and industrial projects, helping organisations reduce reliance on fossil fuels and move towards net-zero targets.
An air source heat pump absorbs heat from the outdoor air and upgrades it using a vapour-compression cycle. The heat is then transferred into the building’s heating system to provide space heating or hot water.
Clade designs air source heat pumps that use natural refrigerants such as CO₂ (R744) and propane (R290). These refrigerants have a lower environmental impact than many synthetic alternatives while maintaining high heating performance.
Air source heat pumps are commonly installed in commercial and industrial buildings where low-carbon heating is required. They can also be used in a wide range of applications, including large facilities, developments and heat network systems.
Air source heat pumps are highly efficient because they transfer heat rather than generating it through combustion. In many systems, one unit of electricity can produce several units of heat energy, depending on operating conditions.
Yes. Air source heat pumps can be installed as a replacement for gas or oil heating systems, helping buildings reduce carbon emissions while providing reliable heating and hot water.
