WHAT ARE AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS?

An air source heat pump is a renewable technology that provides a genuine alternative heating system for any type of building, whether residential, commercial, industrial, in both urban and rural areas. It takes any warmth from the outside air and uses that to heat a building. Natural heat in the air is drawn into the system, compressed to increase the temperature, and then fed into the heating system of the home to provide warmth and to heat water. It doesn’t matter how cold it is outside, the pumps can still take warmth and transform it into clean energy for your property. The air source heat pump itself is powered by electricity but as the energy produced comes direct from the warmth of the sun it is a renewable heating system.

Our Air Source Heat Pumps

Clade can design, deliver, install and maintain air source heat pumps for a wide range of commercial and industrial uses. We have a proven track record of high quality manufacturing and excellent service.

ACER

The 50kW-75kW Acer is low noise, small, easy to install and affordable. Using CO2 as its refrigerant, it delivers high temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees, as well as the high performance associated with CO2.

MAPLE

The Maple is a cost-effective heat pump that sits between our flagship Acer CO2 and Oak CO2 heat pumps. It won’t reach the Oak’s high temperatures but delivers superior performance up to 80C flow temperature with a smaller footprint.

ELM

The Elm high temperature (HT) heat pump is part of our R290 heat pumps range, engineered as a direct replacement for traditional boilers. Available in 50kW and 70kW models, it delivers up to 80°C flow temperature with 70°C return while achieving 100% heat decarbonisation without changes to your building.

BIRCH

The Birch heat pump is part of our R290 range, fitting easily into existing systems to provide hot water up to 60°C. Ideal for quiet areas, Birch standard low-noise models are the quietest and most affordable options.

ROWAN

The Rowan is part of our range of R290 heat pumps, offering an affordable, low carbon solution with superb heat service. Compact and easy to install, our Rowan range goes up to 375KW at -5C ambient.

WHY INVEST IN AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP

There are a few good reasons why you should consider switching to an air source heat pump to provide your heating and hot water. While heat pumps do use electricity to power the process, they produce no carbon whilst in operation. This makes it a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuel heating systems.

They also work perfectly with existing renewable technologies and other systems that you have installed or are planning to install – such as solar PV panels, underfloor heating systems etc. Air source heat pumps have low running costs compared with other off-grid fuels, and they take up less space when compared to other sources. You might also be surprised to hear that there are some models of air source heat pumps that can also be used to cool homes during the hotter summer months.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIR-TO-AIR AND AIR TO WATER TYPES OF AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS

There are two different types of air source heat pump. An air-to-air heat pump provides heating by blowing warm air into your home. They use fans to circulate warm air throughout the home and do not heat water in the system. Air-to-air source heat pumps are more commonly known as air conditioning units.

This makes air-to-water systems the more popular option. Water is heated and then circulated throughout the home via radiators, underfloor heating systems, and are used to heat the water in the storage tank. If you have any questions about the correct model of air source heat pump for your business our expert team are here to advise.

AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS FOR RESIDENTIAL APPLICATIONS

An air source heat pump is an efficient heating system option for a variety of residential applications. You might also be surprised to hear that they are effective even in cold temperatures and in the depths of winter. Whether you want to install a smaller air source heat pump for a small apartment in an urban environment or you have a large, detached house in the country, we can find the right model for your needs.

Alongside the heating systems, heat pumps are used to provide hot water for your needs. For modern technologies such as underfloor heating, our heat pump range provide the perfect solution to heat floors and keep you toasty warm this winter.

HOW DOES AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP WORK?

An air source heat pump works by absorbing outside air into a fluid and increasing the temperature to be spread throughout your heating systems. This outside air is blown over a network of tubes that have been filled with a refrigerant, warming it up and turning the liquid into a gas. After passing through a compressor, heat is added as the pressure increases.

This compressed hot gas is passed through a heat exchanger and transfers cool air or water to make it warmer. This is then circulated through your home into the applications that you have installed, as well as providing hot water. The refrigerant then condenses back into a cool liquid to begin the process all over again.

HEAT PUMPS FAQ

Clade Engineering is able to provide heat pumps as either air, ground, or water source. The most suitable type of heat pump depends on several factors related to your property. Generally, air source heat pumps are the most popular because they have the fewest requirements to install. Any type of heat pump can provide hot water and heating to your building.

Heat pumps using CO2 refrigerant as the heat source are friendly to the environment because the CO2 they use stays contained within the appliance and does not get released into the atmosphere. Furthermore, the CO2 we use in our heat pumps has the lowest global warming potential (GWP) of 1 compared to 1000’s for other refrigerants which will all significantly reduce the carbon footprint of your building.

Clade are the industry leaders in heat pump technology. As the heat in buildings challenge became clearer, Clade began the R&D for a new range of heat pumps which would provide a solution for a growing market. The first heat pump was installed in a Co-Op store and achieved a staggering SCOP of 3.7. We have over 36 years of experience and all of our systems are designed and manufactured in the UK.

Our heat pumps meet environmental standards by using a natural refrigerant like CO2. It has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1, which reduces both cost and emissions.

Clade offers a full start to finish heat pumps solution. Our team of engineers design your system, manufacture and supply your heat pumps from our product range, our installation team ensures your heat pump is fully functional and our after sales support team provides ongoing maintenance. You can pick and choose as many or as few of our services to suit your requirements. We ensure that your heat pump system continues to function. Our heat pumps can generate heat from 50kW to multi mega-watt, with a maximum water temperature of over 80 degrees Celsius and a minimum external air temperature of -20 degrees Celsius. Each of our heat pumps also comes with total cooling recovery to ensure a high quality of continued functionality.
